Multi-Center Clinical Trial uses VisionTree Optimal Care™ to Improve Patient Data Collection

- Web-based system connects sites across the country for orthopaedic research -

SAN DIEGO — June 12, 2007 — VisionTree®, the leader in Web-based patient-centered health record management and provider communication systems, announced today that a multi-centered orthopedic study headed by Kevin Bozic, MD, MBA, Associate Professor at UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies, will use the system at participating sites to assist potential hip replacement patients in their decision-making process. The VisionTree system was selected to help improve compliance of patient data collection and provide real-time reporting between multiple sites.

"Clinical research typically has its greatest challenges in enrolling patients and collecting information, since it is usually done at one site with paper or phone survey," said Kevin Bozic, MD, MBA, Principal Investigator of the innovative hip replacement study. "VTOC offers us the ability to move this process to the web across several sites for collecting data in a faster and more compliant manner."

VTOC has been adopted by over 70 academic and community sites around the country for collecting outcomes data and delivering secure patient/provider communication. The user-friendly, HIPAA-compliant, Web-based platform allows consenting patients to fill out their history and quality of life forms in real-time from any location that has Internet access, including their home. The system can also send patients reminders via e-mail or text messaging to increase the likelihood of their on-going study and disease management participation.

"VTOC will be an important part of our analysis of hip replacement patients, and will be used by 3 sites for web-based data collection and communication including Massachusetts General Hospital and the New York Hospital for Joint Disease" said Dr. Kevin Bozic. "Since many people are familiar and comfortable with Internet applications, we believe the system will help us increase patient participation and give us real-time access to usable and pertinent data."

VTOC is fully compliant with Title 21, Part 11 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) statistical process control system pertaining to electronic records and signatures. The platform can collect outcomes data by exporting Microsoft® Excel® and PDF™ reports, and can "push" the survey to patients for completion at timed intervals with reminders and corresponding education material, if desired.

"VTOC helps both healthcare consumers and providers," said Martin Pellinat, CEO of VisionTree. "The system empowers patients to provide important feedback directly with their physician electronically, as well as build their own personal health record to help make the best decisions at the most critical times. VTOC will also serve as the vehicle to transform the medical industry into a true paperless environment, increasing staff's productivity and data gathering capabilities to effectively measure patient satisfaction. With more than 100,000 users, VTOC is improving the way healthcare is offered."
