ANNUAL HEALTHCARE UNBOUND CONFERENCE DISCUSSES TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION FOR PATIENT-CENTERED CLINCAL DATA CONNECTIVITY
- VisionTree® to participate in Clinical Groupware panel to discuss technology's role in patient-centered connected medical home model -
SAN DIEGO — June 16, 2009 —VisionTree®, a leader in Web-based patient-centered data management and provider communication systems, announced today that it will join the Healthcare Unbound Conference in Seattle, WA on June 22, 2009 to discuss solutions for connecting clinical systems being called 'clinical groupware' for an emerging concept called the patient-centered medical home. VisionTree will join the panel on 'Clinical Groupware', which is focused on the role of technology to support care coordination, remote monitoring and disease management initiatives.
The Healthcare Unbound conference will feature speakers, panelists and exhibitors to focus on the convergence of consumer and healthcare technologies facilitating participatory medicine, with a special focus on innovative remote monitoring, home telehealth and eHealth for chronic care management and wellness promotion.
The Clinical Groupware panel is being moderated by David C. Kibbe, MD, MBA, Principal, The Kibbe Group & Senior Advisor, American Academy of Family Physicians, also a keynote speaker at the event. The panel will address how this class of software is different from legacy or traditional electronic health record applications that are now used by only about 10% of American doctors. "We are pleased to have VisionTree join the panel and look forward to a dynamic discussion on the ‘connected medical home' as a new kind of primary care system and how clinical groupware, along with standards and protocols for interoperability can drive this innovation forward."
The medical home initiative is a component of President Obama's HITECH Act by providing incentives to physicians for using electronic medical records in a meaningful way to improve care and lower costs. The patient medical home creates a less fragmented care system with the primary care physician "quarterbacking" the patient's healthcare plan across the medical team and accessible electronic patient health records with reporting and tracking mechanisms for compliance in wellness prevention and managing chronic diseases.
VisionTree is ideally positioned to support a patient centered management and connectivity framework. VisionTree Optimal Care™ (VTOC) is secure, web-based, patient-centered, workflow platform that serves as a connector between clinical systems using HIPAA-compliant clinical data interchange standards. VTOC is HL7 compliant and easily connects to 3rd party EMR's and Practice Management Solutions for bi-directional data exchange. In the last six years, the VTOC platform has eliminated paper in the clinic, both patient clipboard and clinical forms, increasing the quality and efficiency of care delivered. This includes mechanisms for tracking preventative care measures, appointment/refill requests, delivery of lab results and monitoring the patient through secure portal technology including disease management and their PHR.
"VTOC's user friendly, HIPAA-secure platform will allow my patients to login to a portal that will provide electronic messaging, preventative treatment plan alerts, ongoing assessment forms and patient education. These features can enhance the relationship between provider and patient. The efficiency this system will afford my practice with dashboard metrics, real-time data analysis, procedure alerts and 2-way communication allows me to focus more on disease prevention and spending quality time with my patients" according to Dr. Brandon Koretz, Geriatrician.
"VTOC is making the patient-centric vision of the medical home a reality," said Martin Pellinat, founder and CEO of VisionTree. "VTOC sites are seeing the benefits of an easy-to-use and realistic electronic workflow system that integrates disparate legacy systems and the patient into the process. Many providers have a percentage of their workflow electronic, but VTOC is the proven solution to fill in the gaps, connect the patient with their coordinated care team through two-way messaging, notifications and building their own secure, Personal Health Record."
The VisionTree Optimal Care™ (VTOC) platform is in 7 of the top 10 U.S. News & World Report hospitals with over 200,000 patients on the system in more than 100 sites in the United States and Europe. Patients can access VTOC with an internet connection from home or at their provider site using a touch-screen kiosk. VisionTree is providing core workflow solutions with an affordable, subscription-based model for secure, web and mobile patient data access that requires no software or custom, on-site hardware.
About Healthcare Unbound
Innovative technologies are driving opportunities to serve health consumers in new ways and in new settings. In 2002, Forrester Research coined the term "Healthcare Unbound" to encompass the trends toward self-care, mobile care, and home care. More specifically, Forrester describes Healthcare Unbound as "technology in, on and around the body that frees care from formal institutions."
The program will have a strong focus on use of remote monitoring / home telehealth technologies for wellness promotion and disease management, with a special emphasis on Baby Boomers and the elderly population. The agenda will also cover topics such as the emerging role of mobile/wireless technologies, legal/regulatory developments and reimbursement issues, strategies for success for Healthcare Unbound vendors and much more. The program will also feature leading-edge case studies as well as keynote presentations from some of the nation’s thought leaders in the area of Healthcare Unbound.
In addition to dramatically changing traditional health care delivery, Healthcare Unbound attracts a range of companies that previously have not been deeply involved in healthcare -- consumer electronics, telecom, and information technology companies to name a few.
