ASTRO and VisionTree Announce Beta Rollout of Online Individual Physician Practice Quality Improvement Modules
FAIRFAX, VA — January 09, 2007 — The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology announced that it will use VisionTree Software, Inc. (www.visiontree.com) to rollout their Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Practice Quality Improvement (PQI) program as part of continuing education and certification for its more than 8,500 members. The certification program will help radiation oncologists provide valid data on individual physician quality and improved outcomes as well as foster the continuing scholarships required for professional excellence in the practice of medicine. PQI focuses specifically on improving aspects of patient care and clinical and operational processes that will result in an improved experience for the patient.
ASTRO and VisionTree showcased the VisionTree Outcomes Online program at ASTRO's 48th Annual Meeting November 5-9, 2006, in Philadelphia. A demonstration of the system will be available on ASTRO's website at www.astro.org, in early 2007.
During 2007, ASTRO will work with key cancer treatment centers to begin collecting baseline aggregate data from members that will be used to further develop the PQI module for the MOC program.
"ASTRO is committed to helping our physician members continue to refine and improve the skills they use treating cancer patients," said Laura I. Thevenot, CEO of ASTRO. "We look forward to working with VisionTree as we launch our PQI program. The program has already been tentatively approved by the American Board of Radiology."
"The PQI tool that VisionTree is helping ASTRO launch is an important part of Maintenance of Certification, which is required of physicians with time-limited certificates," said Kathy Thomas, Senior Director of Education at ASTRO. "VisionTree's expertise is helping us create the best product possible for our members."
The ASTRO Annual Meeting is the premier educational and scientific event for radiation oncology professionals. For more than 40 years, ASTRO has been bringing radiation oncology professionals together to provide them with quality continuing medical education and to showcase the latest technologies in cancer treatment and care.
